Stop the excuses! Get every workout in, no matter how “busy” you are!

3 Hacks to get your Workouts in!

Whether you’re a young professional crushing it at work or running your own startup, chances are that you have a crazy busy schedule. Meetings, projects, investor meetings and afterwork events keep you from getting your workouts in. Next to my own startup and university life, fitness has been a big passion of mine for many years now and I want to share my top 3 tricks that I have used to get 5-6 workouts in weekly. Let’s get right into it!

Don’t make excuses – make sure you get your workouts in!

 

1) Block off time in your calendar!

This one is powerful! Simply look at your calendar for your week and spot some free time slots. Then go ahead and block off the exact amount of slots equivalent to the number of workouts you want to get in that week (e.g. block 4 x 1h slots if you want to get 4 workouts in). That way you will automatically be reminded to work out and nothing else can get in your way.

2) Find a workout partner!

Teaming up with someone and reaching goals together is incredible. Don’t fool yourself in having to find someone who is on the same fitness level as you are. If someone is 10 steps ahead of you, even better! What really matters is keeping each other accountable. Whenever you feel like not working out or coming up with excuses, your workout partner will motivate you and vice versa. Pro-Tipp: Find multiple workout partners or even start a workout group to push each other!

3) Sleep less!

One of my first advice to people who say they don’t have time to get fit is “Sleep less!”. Very often they say they need 8h of sleep without ever having tried sleeping less. If you’re calendar is jammed for the day, wake up 1.5-2h earlier to get that workout in. Not only will you be energized for the day and realize that it actually didn’t hurt sleeping less, but you also just got your workout in even though your busy schedule tried to stop you from it. You don’t have to do this every day but this little hack is especially helpful for days that seem to be way too busy to get any exercise in at all.

Keep in mind that all of this is a mindset thing and these little tricks will help you reconfigure the way you’re prioritizing exercise in your day-to-day busy life. Think of working out as something that makes your entire life better, not as a chore that needs to get done. Also, don’t beat yourself down if you really can’t make a workout. I myself  will miss a session here and there, but using the 3 hacks above will help you get back on track in no time!
